Becoming a CLEP Designated Institution (Score Recipient)

Colleges, universities, and other credit-granting institutions that are new to CLEP or aren't current CLEP score recipients and wish to receive CLEP scores and transcripts from test-takers* should formally establish themselves as CLEP Designated Institutions (DI).

*Test takers must initiate the process for institutions to receive their scores. Exceptions to this include DANTES-funded exams, K-12 voucher-funded exams, and exams of K-12 students who indicate their high school during registration. In these cases, the funders of the exams and/or the high school have access to score information.

Benefits to Becoming a CLEP DI (Score Recipient):

  1. Receive Official CLEP Scores Electronically

Electronic Score Reporting (ESR) is a free service that is only provided to CLEP Score Recipients. With ESR, you’ll receive scores securely, quickly, and with all personally identifiable information included to help properly match test takers with their scores. Score data is delivered in an automated nondelimited flat file, so information can be uploaded to your institution’s database. Once you've completed your CLEP Designated Institution (Score Recipient) application, you’ll receive more information to set up electronic receipt of scores. And don’t worry, until ESR is set up, you’ll receive scores and transcripts via postal mail.

  2. Be Listed on the CLEP College Credit Policy Search

When test takers need to send scores or transcripts, they can easily find your institution on our website in the CLEP College Credit Policy Search. When your institution is selected in our search, you’ll be assured that their score or transcript is sent to you as designated. Test takers can send scores to two institutions for free prior to testing or they can pay for transcripts after testing by logging into their accounts.

  3. Establish Clear Credit-Granting Policies

When submitting a CLEP Designated Institution (Score Recipient) application, institutions may create and communicate their CLEP credit-granting policy. This policy tells test takers which CLEP exams are accepted, the minimum credit-granting score, and how many credits they could receive.
