Benefits of a Test Center

CLEP testing is offered at over 1,900 institutions worldwide. If your high school, college, or university is considering becoming a test center, there are several advantages to doing so.

CLEP was created to help your students:

  • Accelerate their college degrees by earning college credit for what they already know
  • Advance to more challenging courses
  • Save money on tuition costs

Benefits of a Test Center for High Schools

While the majority of CLEP testing is done in professional testing centers at colleges and universities, some high schools are interested in opening CLEP test centers. A CLEP test center at your high school can offer your students:

  • Early Success. Students can earn college credit in a variety of subjects. Exam policies vary by institution so it is important to research them in advance.
  • Convenience. An onsite testing center offers your students the convenience of testing in a familiar environment. High schools may choose to not charge an administrative fee regularly charged by colleges and universities, saving your students money.
  • Instant Score Reports. Upon completion of an exam, students will receive their CLEP score, which can be helpful in college planning conversations with school personnel.
  • Flexibility in testing. There are no pre-set exam administration dates so exams can be taken year-round when students are ready. High schools can use their equipment, which does not have to be dedicated solely to CLEP.

If interested, you should apply to be test centers about three months in advance of testing. It is possible to get through the process more quickly, but few schools have the dedicated staff to expedite the process.

The process of becoming a test center includes applying to be a test center, executing the required contract, training staff, and technical set-up and installation of the testing software.

Benefits of a Test Center for Institutions

A CLEP test center on your campus offers your students and institution:

  • Early success. You can influence potential, high-achieving students to enroll at your institution. With CLEP, students can earn up to 12 credits in introductory courses.
  • Convenience. An on-campus test center offers your students the convenience of testing in a familiar environment.
  • Increase in revenue. Increased testing volume means increased revenue from administration fees. These fees can translate into funding for equipment, staff and other programs, and can increase your test center's status on campus.
  • Instant score reports. Credit granting is made fast and easy. Students can make immediate decisions about subsequent course enrollment. Scores can be sent to the registrar’s office electronically.
  • Flexibility in test administration. Institutions can use their equipment, which does not have to be dedicated solely to CLEP. Testing centers set their own testing schedule. CLEP iBT is configured to run using only two computers or in a networked environment.
