Informing students about CLEP can enhance their educational experience by providing an accelerated avenue to credit completion. Here are some benefits:
- Serves All Students: CLEP recognizes the value of prior learning and validates a student’s experience and knowledge acquired inside and outside of the classroom, such as workforce training, specialized knowledge and life experience.
- Maintains Academic Momentum: CLEP is a time-saving avenue to degree completion. Students can continue their education and graduate even when the unexpected occurs. According to a study by the Council of Adult and Experiential Learning, PLA students earning bachelor’s degrees saved between 2.5 and 10.1 months of time in earning their degrees, compared to non-PLA students earning degrees. PLA students who earned associate degrees saved 1.5 to 4.5 months to degree completion.
- Finance College: At $80, CLEP helps students access higher education, making it easier to finance tuition and fees.
- Earn Credit: A satisfactory score on any of the 33 CLEP exams can earn students 3 to 12 college credits for what they already know.
